Istanbul police searching for bombs in a graveyard

Teams from the Istanbul Police Department are searching for explosive devices suspected to have been buried by the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in a graveyard in Istanbul, Today’s Zaman reports.

Counter-terrorism teams enforced strict security around Kozlu Graveyard in Istanbul’s Zeytinburnu district and 10. Yıl Street, which runs in front of the graveyard, has been closed off to traffic.

In March of this year, Istanbul counterterrorism teams carried out excavations at two sites in the city in search of explosives as part of a terrorism investigation and found 15 kilograms of plastic explosives at one of the sites. The searches were carried out as part of an investigation into the Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK), a political umbrella organization that includes the PKK.
