Ashtarak hosts exhibition on Armenia’s money circulation

On April 17, on the initiative of the Central Bank of Armenia (CBA), Armenia’s city of Ashtarak hosted opening of an exhibition titled “History of Armenia’s money circulation.”

The event pursues two goals: first, introductory, aiming to present the historical stages of money circulation; and second, educational – to brief on the functions of the Central Bank with monitory policy and financial stability among them,” member of CBA Council Armenak Darbinyan said.

Ashtarak city mayor Gagik Tamazyan noted that coins are bearers of the economic life, which comprises separate historical periods.

According to CBA numismatist Gevorg Mugalyan, the oldest coins date back to the 3rd century, with copper coins of Tigranes the Great, kings of Cilicia, collectable coins, modern coins, as well as paper notes during Russian Empire, Soviet era and modern times displayed at the exhibition.

The exhibition will remain on display until April 23.
