Theater Institute head: YSLU rector should have banned student protests

Rector of Yerevan State Institute of Theater and Cinematography Armen Mazmanyan met with journalists on April 20.

Asked to comment on the recent row that involved Yerevan State Linguistic University (YSLU) rector Suren Zolyan, Mr. Mazmanyan said Zolyan shouldn't have allowed students to hold a protest action, Mazmanyan said.

“This was a confrontation between Zolyan and Education Minister Armen Ashotyan, and not students’ clash,” he stated. Theatre Institute head believes students have nothing to do at a rally.

On April 17, Armenian Minister Ashotyan signed a decree to dismiss YSLU rector Suren Zolyan; following it, the university’s students waged a protest action to oppose the decision.
