EUROPEAN INVESTORS, RUSSIA AND TURKEY INTERESTED IN OPENING ABKHAZIAN RAILWAY
A number of European investors as well as the Governments of Russia and Turkey, show much interest in launching rail communication via the territory of Abkhazia, Georgian Prime Minister Zurab Zhvania stated at a meeting at the Railway Department when introducing its new head David Onoprishvili. At that Zhvania noted talks on resumption of communication via the Abkhazian part of the Transcaucasian railway were possible after the return of Georgian refugees to the Gali region of Abkhazia. It should be noted that the Abkhazian segment, which is closed at present, is the only rail route connecting Armenia and Russia.
