ARMENIAN FOREIGN MINISTER AND US STATE SECRETARY DISCUSSED KARABAKH PROBLEM IN WASHINGTON
Armenian Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanian, being in Washington on a working visit, met with US State Secretary Colin Powell June 14. In the course of the meeting they discussed prospects of promotion of the relations between the two countries, the recent developments in the South Caucasus, the Armenian-Turkish relations, as well as a number of issues, referring to the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. The interlocutors especially considered the tasks, relating to Armenia's participation in the Millenium Challenge US program, noting its importance from the point of view of developing economy and democracy in the country. The same day the head of the Foreign Ministry of Armenia met with Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs Condoleezza Rice and her deputy Stephen Hadley, with whom he specifically discussed the Karabakh settlement and security problems in the South Caucasian region. Questions referring to the NATO Istanbul Summit were also considered. In Washington Vardan Oskanian also had meetings with Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Eurasia Mira Ricardel, US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Elizabeth Jones, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor Michael Kozak. The other day Armenian Foreign Minister came out in the Center for Strategic and International Studies and spoke about Armenia's foreign policy and regional security. Today in Washington V. Oskanian will hold a number of meetings with Congressmen, as well as representatives of Armenian organizations of the US.
