The participants of the NATO summit that opened in Istanbul today made a decision "to undertake measures for consolidating the Euro-Atlantic partnership, in part, to pay special attention to its Caucasian and Central Asian partners", as reported by Mediamax agency, the communique adopted at the summit says. The document records that NATO officers are to work in the regions of the South Caucasus and Central Asia. Besides, the summit participants agreed on appointing Special Representative of the Alliance in these regions. "We welcome the decision by Georgia, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan to work out Individual Plan of Partnership with NATO. It is a considerable step towards establishing close connections with NATO", the document says.
