The opening of the Armenian Turkish border cannot be a precondition for Turkey's accession to the European Union, stated European Commission Deputy Spokesman Marco Vignudelli in an interview with Zaman Turkish newspaper. In his words, the issue should be solved via dialogue between Armenia and Turkey. It should be noted that Eurocommission President Romano Prodi stated September 19 that he would do his best for the opening of the Armenian-Turkish border.
