BUDENNOVSK: MONUMENT TO ARMENIANS-FOUNDERS OF TOWN ERECTED
The opening ceremony of the complex "To the fathers-founders of the town of Saint Cross" took place in the Russian town of Budennovsk on October 17. As reported by Yerkramas, the newspaper of Armenians of Russia, the complex consists of an arch 8 meters high, a Khachkar (cross stone) and a composition of stones, the construction of which was initiated by the administration of the Saint Cross Armenian community. When delivering a speech after the unveiling ceremony Mayor of Budennovsk Nikolay Lyaschenko mentioned that "Budennovsk is a symbol of friendship between the Armenian and Russian peoples". To note, the town of Surb Khach (in translation from Armenian means Saint Cross), which was later on called Budennovsk, was founded by Armenians, migrants from Karabakh, in 1799.
