KYOTO PROTOCOL CAME INTO EFFECT
February 16 the Kyoto Protocol on limitation of emissions of greenhouse gases to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change came into effect. The document aims at reducing the environment pollution. The Protocol was ratified by 125 states (including Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia), the aggregate volume of whose emissions makes 44.2%. China, India, as well as the US did not join it, refusing to ratify it. The Kyoto Protocol is called to reduce the volume of emission of harmful gases into the planet atmosphere that cause global warming. The items of the document bind the signatory countries to cut the volume of emission of harmful gases into the Earth atmosphere by 2012. 141 countries, the volume of whose emissions makes over 55% of the total, intend to curtail the indicators in question by 5.2% by that time.
