OPERATION OF KAVKAZ-POTI FERRY PASSAGE MARKED BEGINNING OF SOLUTION OF TRANSPORT PROBLEM, RESTRAINING ARMENIAN-RUSSIAN ECONOMIC COOPERATION
The operation of Kavkaz port - Poti port ferry passage has marked the beginning of the solution of a serious transport problem, which had restrained the Armenian-Russian economic cooperation, Armenian President Robert Kocharian stated at a joint press conference of the Armenian and Russian leaders in Yerevan today. In his words, the transport component is a weighty one in economic cooperation. «Of course time is necessary to cope with that route, make calculations, decide the tariffs and prices. However, I am convinced that with the beginning of the operation of the ferry passage prospects we did not speak about at least recently will open,» R. Kocharian added. Having reminded in his turn that today the first train ferry with cargo for Georgia arrived in Poti port from Kavkaz port, V. Putin noted that the ferry is further planned to be used for transportation of production to Armenia. «We hope that the line will operate in the interests of all countries of the region and that private investments will also be attracted,» the Russian President noted. In Vladimir Putin's opinion, such steps will open large opportunities for business and will serve to the formation of additional employment, will raise the intensity of the economic life of the region and will promote strengthening integration processes.
