Former Foreign Minister of Artsakh Republic Arman Melikyan believed opposition’s nomination of a neutral candidate to be the only chance for victory against the authorities at the upcoming presidential elections in Armenia.
“The candidate must have vast experience in the political field. Neither Armenian National Congress (ANC) leader Levon Ter-Petrossian, nor Prosperous Armenia head Gagik Tsarukyan, nor RA former foreign minister Vartan Oskanian are able to make a change by themselves,” he said.
Dwelling on Georgian Dream opposition party’s victory at recent Tbilisi parliamentary elections, the ex-minister noted that Armenia isn’t ready for such a political shift.
“First, it was not done in a day; and second Saakashvili managed to rid Georgia of Russian influence,” he said, voicing skepticism over Yerevan’s ability to follow Tbilisi’s suit.
“I think it’s high time RA authorities favored the country’s interests and were located in Armenia,” Melikyan said.
