Expert: Turkey won’t give up plan to attack Syria

Turkish military intervention in Syrian conflict is losing its topicality, Director of the Oriental Studies Institute of the Armenian National Academy of Sciences said.

According to Ruben Safrastyan, the U.S. program aiming to overthrow the Assad regime has failed.

“Syrian authorities proved the existence of a strong state system, with the majority of the population backing it. Moreover, the West proves unable to maintain influence on the country’s opposition forces,” the expert told a press conference.

“The U.S. is still unable to find an actor that can influence the opposition. The process is unlikely to yield any progress,” he said, liking Turkey’s plan to attack Syria to the Kurdish problem.
