The ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) has stressed the need for changes.

“We have repeatedly said that changes will be recorded in all fields, including in government. This doesn’t imply, however, a shift in the prime minister’s post,” Armenian National Assembly speaker Hovik Abrahamyan said.

Dwelling on his meeting with President Serzh Sargsyan, Mr. Abrahamyan said government reorganization was not on agenda, with only parliament-related problems discussed.

He noted it early to speak about a shift in the Prime Minister’s post, adding that RPA earlier discussed increasing the number of deputy prime ministers.

The parliament speaker further confirmed having met with former mayor Karen Karapetyan, noting it inappropriate to divulge details of the discussion.

Asked if he may run for president in 2018 elections, Abrahamyan said, “I’ve never thought of the president’s post.”

In response to the observation claiming Abrahamyan once eyed the prime minister’s post, he said, “parliament’s speaker’s post is preferable to that of the prime minister.”
