Angry Birds, Facebook named most-downloaded iPhone apps

Apple has named the most-downloaded iPhone and iPad apps of all time ahead of the App Store's fifth birthday, Digital Spy said.

The firm announced that Angry Birds is the most popular premium iPhone app on the storefront, followed by Fruit Ninja, Doodle Jump, Cut the Rope and Angry Birds Seasons in the top five.

Facebook was named as the most-downloaded free app for the smartphone, with Pandora, Instagram, YouTube and Skype rounding off the top five.

Apple's own Pages word processing software leads the way in the iPad premium category, followed by Angry Birds HD, Angry Birds Seasons HD, Where's My Water HD and Fruit Ninja HD.

Skype was named as the top freemium iPad application, ahead of The Weather Channel, Netflix, Angry Birds HD Free and Amazon's Kindle software.

It was previously announced that gaming apps Infinity Blade 2, Badland, Superbrothers: Sword and Sworcery EP, Where's my Water? and Tiny Wings will be available for free for a limited time to mark the App Store's anniversary.

Non-gaming apps including Traktor DJ, Day One, Over, and Barefoot World Atlas are also free for a limited time.

The App Store turns five on Wednesday (July 10).
