Android 5.0 Lollipop “due for Galaxy devices early next year”

Google's Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system is reportedly due to be released for select Samsung Galaxy device early next year, according to Digital Spy.

Seoul-based Reuters tech correspondent Vincent Se Young Lee claims that the update will hit the Galaxy Note 3, Note 4, Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S5 in early 2105.

This is in line with previous reports stating that the Galaxy S5 and S4 will receive the software sometime within the next month.

New features of Android Lollipop include a more fluid user interface with enhanced 3D effects, greater control over notifications, support for 64-bit hardware and increased battery life.

Android 5.0 has already been released for several third-party devices, including the LG G3 and the Nvidia Shield Tablet.

The software debuted alongside the Nexus 6 smartphone and the Nexus 9 tablet.
