First U.S. ambassador to Armenia Harry Gilmore dies at 77

Harry J. Gilmore, the first U.S. ambassador to Armenia, passed away last week at the age of 77, the U.S. embassy said.

Ambassador Gilmore served in Armenia from May 1993 to July 1995. In his 35 years in the U.S. Foreign Service, the ambassador also served in Berlin, Belgrade, Munich, Budapest, Moscow and Ankara, and held several senior positions in Washington, D.C.

Ambassador Gilmore’s funeral will be held on May 9 in Arlington, Virginia.
