Armenian program becomes celebrated event at Istanbul Biennial

The presentation of the Armenian program for the 14th Istanbul Biennial of contemporary art, sponsored by Dilijan Art Initiative from Initiatives for Development of Armenia (IDeA) Charitable Foundation, became a celebrated event on Biennial’s opening days.

Involving the Armenian program in 14th Istanbul Biennial was curator Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev, who stressed the importance and timeliness of discussing the events that took place 100 years ago in Turkey.

Thanks to Dilijan Art Initiative, Christov-Bakargiev gathered Armenian and Turkish artists, as well as those from the Armenian Diaspora and across the world, who dwelled upon the Armenian Genocide through their work.

“Support from Dilijan Art Initiative gave us the opportunity to have Arshile Gorky’s works exhibited at the Biennial: Gorky experienced the horrors of Genocide. Paintings by modernist and creator of new forms of abstraction, Lebanese artist Paul Guiragossian, whose mother also fled persecution, remarkable sculptures by Sonia Balassanyan and philosophical installations by Anna Boghiguian are also showcased”, Christov-Bakargiev said.

Dilijan Art Initiative is one of IDeA Foundation’s projects, which aims to transform the city of Dilijan into an international center of arts and education.

The 14th Istanbul Biennial run through November 1, 2015.
