European Economic Union readying food safety deal

Moscow hosted on Wednesday, October 7, a European Economic Union meeting, chaired by Member of the Eurasian Economic Commission Board and Minister for Technical Regulation, Valery Koreshkov, the EEC website reports.

The EEC reviewed a draft of an international treaty on the rules and procedures concerning the safety and handling of products, the requirements for which are not established by the technical regulations of the EEU.

Members of the Working Group on the agreement – EEC representatives, authorized government authorities and EEU experts – participated in the meeting.

“All the products, traded on the EEU market, should be safe during production, storage, transportation and sales,” Koreshkov said.

The contract must become a key document to provide freedom of circulation of products inside the Union’s market. The document will further be discussed at the next meeting of the Working Group in November and is scheduled to be finalized by the end of 2015.
