Armenians of Cleveland Voted for Democrats
The Armenian community of Ohio State numbers some 3 thousand these mainly being refugees from Azerbaijan, who arrived in the US after pogroms in Baku in 1990. As pastor of the community, deacon Artak Khachikyan told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter, the refugees have mainly arrived due to one of the largest Russian-speaking communities, numbering 75 thousand members, in the north-east of Middle West US being situated in Cleveland. There are only 500 Armenians in Cleveland, most of which are descendants of Constantinople Armenians, who survived the slaughter in 1915. There is an evening school next to the temple. The temple itself is build in 1964. «Armenians of Ohio, like those in other US states, take part in the political life, specifically the percentage of those voting at the elections is very high. Armenians basically vote for Democrats,» Khachikyan said.
