Armenia’s poverty rate down by 2% in 2014: report

The number of poor people continues to decline in Armenia, with a 30% poverty rate having been registered in 2014, the country's National Statistical Service (NSS) reports, according to the RFE/RL Armenian service.

Commenting on the report Social Snapshot and Poverty in Armenia, published on Monday, November 23, chief of NSS Households Survey Department Diana Martirosova detailed the results of the survey.

Particularly, the poverty line totaled AMD 40.264: if people could afford spending more than AMD 40.264, they were not considered to be poor in 2014.

“In 2014, Armenia’s economy grew by 3,5% against 2013, reducing the poverty rate by 2%,” Martirosova said.
