Iran plans to increase gas supply to Armenia fivefold

Growth of Iranian gas exports to Armenia depends on the construction of a new electricity transmission line between the two countries, the head of National Iranian Gas Exports Company said, according to Mehr news agency.

Explaning the latest status of Iranian natural gas exports, Alireza Kameli said that an average of one million cubic meters of natural gas is annually exported to Armenia.

The official said that gas export is carried out in exchange for purchase of electricity; on the basis of a joint agreement, there is a possibility to increase the amount of gas exports fivefold, he noted.

He deemed the construction of necessary infrastructures as one of the important factors in increasing the exports volume.

“Armenia has recently started to build a 400-kw transmission line,” Kameli reminded, stressing that the construction process is estimated to last two years.
