Yuen Woo-ping, the martial arts choreographer of “The Matrix” trilogy, will take the director’s chair for a kung-fu comedy titled “Hand Over Fist”, Variety reports.
A co-production with Hong Kong’s Emperor Motion Pictures taking the lead, the film sees its modern-day protagonists swept into a 600-year feud between rivaling martial arts masters from yesteryear.
Shooting is expected to begin later this year. Other co-production partners and the cast are to be confirmed.
This is the first time Emperor collaborated with Yuen, who recently directed “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny,” some 16 years after choreographing the action scenes of the Oscar-winning “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.”
Yuen, often referred to as the Master, has numerous other credits on leading fight films. These include action director on current hit “Ip Man 3,” assistant director and action choreographer on “Fearless” (aka “Jet Li’s Fearless”), and action choreographer on Wong Kar-wai’s “The Grandmaster.”
