Armenians, Georgians arrested over attempt to sell uranium for $200 mln

Georgia’s state security service on Monday, April 18 said it detained three Georgian nationals and three Armenians for an attempted sale of uranium, TASS reports.

"Members of a criminal group - three Armenian citizens and three Georgian citizens - who planned to sell radioactive substance uranium U238 for a sum of $200 million were detained," the service said in a statement.

"An industrial transport container with uranium was also seized."

According to the Georgian security service, the radiology review revealed that the substances can cause severe health effects.

An investigation into illegal possession and sale of radioactive materials is currently underway.
