VivaCell-MTS equips computer classes at schools in border village

The computer class of the secondary school in the village of Vahan was equipped with 10 new PCs, according to a VivaCell-MTS announcement.

Owing to VivaCell-MTS support, high-speed internet connection and a free 3G Wi-Fi router were provided to the school two years ago. 155 students of Vahan School have benefited from the project.

The village in Armenia's Gegharkunik province shares a 28-km-long border with Azerbaijan. Since 2008, VivaCell-MTS has been supporting Vahan community, with a gas pipeline constructed as part of its first project.

In the last two years VivaCell-MTS, in cooperation with the Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets (FPWC) implemented two more projects in Vahan, using state-of-the-art technologies. The initiatives included installation of a LED system to provide outdoor lighting along a 1,100-meter area of the village. The environmentally friendly and energy-efficient LED lights also reduce energy costs by up to 80%. In the framework of the initiatives promoting nature conservation, energy efficiency and community development, a solar water heating system has been installed in the kindergarten of Vahan community ensuring an up to 60% reduction of gas consumption and heating costs. Besides, the AMD 2 million personal donations by the company's Accounting and Finance Department employees were used to build a toilet in the village school building.

VivaCell-MTS will continue projects aimed at the development of the border vilage of Vahan in 2016 too.

Pushing personal volunteering initiatives as an expression of individual responsibility, VivaCell-MTS General Manager Ralph Yirikian has made a donation from his personal funds to provide another 10 computers to the secondary school of the village of Chkalov in Lori province.
