Amazon set for the skies with new Prime Air launch

Retail giant Amazon is apparently set on exploring just about every means of transport to deliver you everything as quickly as possible, Digital Spy said.

While the company continues to roll out its grocery delivery service, Prime Now and drone testing, August 5 marks the launch of its first branded aeroplane, part of what is expected to be a fleet of Prime Air cargo planes.

"Creating an air transportation network is expanding our capacity to ensure great delivery speeds for our Prime members for years to come", said Dave Clark , Amazon's senior vice president of worldwide operations.

With the Amazon Prime logo painted on the body, Amazon One is one of 40 planes that Amazon has agreed to lease through air cargo partners. There are currently 11 dedicated planes flying for Amazon, with additional ones rolling out in the future in order to make sure you get your deliveries on time.

While we still prefer the thought of an autonomous drone whizzing around the streets rather than a 747, the move from the company comes as no great surprise as it looks to tighten its stranglehold on fast-paced online retailing, Digital Spy said.
