Armenia's export of medications has grown by 20-25% over the last year, Deputy Health Minister Sergey Khachatryan said Wednesday, October 19.
According to him, Armenia has 18 registered drug-producers now, of which three have certificates for exporting their products.
Khachatryan said that domestic drug industry covers only 4% of the local market, the remaining gap is filled in with imports.
"In spite of this, Armenian producers are intensively exporting their products, building up exports by 18% each year. In 2015 alone, this indicator rose by 25%, and we connect this with the country's accession to the Eurasian Economic Union," he said failing to disclose any particular figures though.
The Deputy Minister said that Armenian producers have opportunities to export medications not only to the EEU space, but also to the Middle East and the European Union markets.
Also, he said, Armenia's export opportunities, laws corresponding to the European legislation and preferences for products exported to the EEU member countries make Armenia quite attractive for potential investors in this sector.
