Lin-Manuel Miranda reveals plans for “Millennials: The Musical”

“Moana” composer Lin-Manuel Miranda and star Dwayne Johnson have unveiled their next collaboration, a YouTube effort titled “Millennials: The Musical”, TheWrap said.

The pair discussed their plans for the musical in a YouTube video posted to Johnson’s account.

The description of the video reveals, “Fresh off the heels of their soon-to-be-released Disney movie, #Moana (in theaters Nov. 23rd in 3D), Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Lin-Manuel Miranda decided to put their producing chops to the test by releasing their very own YouTube musical epic, ‘Millennials: The Musical’!”

“Theater is a beautiful, living, breathing thing. To tread the boards is a duty and a blessing,” Miranda says in the video.

“Yeah, as long as you don’t f— it up,” Johnson added.

The behind-the-scenes look at the making of the musical is extremely tongue-in-cheek, making it clear that this will be a send-up of the stage. And millennials. Especially when it’s revealed that the pair were pitched on the musical via Twitter, TheWrap said.

“I mean, I love pitches under 120 characters,” Johnson declares in the video.

The making-of video chronicles the tumultuous efforts of writer/director “Michael Palomar” to bring his brainchild to fruition, efforts that are threatened by his own diva-esque meltdowns, an on-and-off relationship between two cast members, and the self-obsessed flightiness of millennials in general.

Despite the hurdles, the production apparently was completed, as “Millennials: The Musical” will premiere Nov. 29 on Johnson’s YouTube channel, TheWrap said.
