Belarus, Azerbaijan adopt joint statement on Karabakh settlement

Minsk and Baku stand for the resolution of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict in accordance with the international law, reads a joint statement of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and Azeri President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan adopted on Monday, November 28, BelTA reports.

“The parties note the importance of the settlement of the conflict in accordance with the universally recognized principles and norms of international law, primarily on the basis of respect for the sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability of state borders, and also the relevant UN Security Council resolutions and the OSCE decisions,” the statement says.

Referring to the efforts of the OSCE towards a peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict, the activity of the OSCE Minsk Group and its Co-chairs, the heads of state noted the importance of giving them an additional political impetus to make them more effective and speed up the resolution of this conflict. The document notes that the countries will continue to make concerted efforts to strengthen international and regional security, enhance the effectiveness of multilateral cooperation in the fight against terrorism, drug trafficking, transnational organized crime, trafficking in persons and other contemporary challenges and threats.
