Ombudsman found no threat by Armenian troops against Azerbaijan

Armenian Armed Forces posed no threat to Azerbaijan, human rights defender Arman Tatoyan said Wednesday, January 18.

Following Azerbaijan's attempted subversive attack against the Armenian village of Chinari, the defender's office carried out a fact-finding mission on December 29-30, as well as during Christmas holidays.

"The investigation ruled out any threat from the Armenian Armed Forces towards Azerbaijan," Panorama.am cited Tatoyan as saying.

According to him, the fact-finding mission was based on open resources.

Azerbaijani troops attempted a subversive attack near the village of Chinari in Armenia's Tavush province in the early hours of December 29. Three Armenian servicemen were killed in the attack. The Armenian Defense Ministry said it possesses undeniable evidence of violation of the state border by Azerbaijan, adding that up to seven Azeri troops were also killed. Armenia still holds the body of one of Azerbaijan's soldiers, with ICRC engaged in negotiations over its return.
