Armenia could introduce paid paternity leave for working fathers

The Health Committee of the Armenian National Assembly is discussing two proposals to benefit parents.

One of the bills proposes to include a new term – "paternity leave" – in the country's Labor Code, which would allow the father of a newborn baby to take paid time off for up to five days within the first month of the infant's birth.

The other bill stipulates that parents of preschool children could be allowed to leave work an hour earlier without payroll deductions.

Preschool institutions close at 5:30pm across the country, which means children's parents could have difficulties when leaving the workplace ahead of time.

The bills have been drafted by lawmakers from the ruling My Step block.
