Armenia: Former security chief summoned to National Security Service

Former director of Armenia's National Security Service Artur Vanetsyan has been summoned to the National Security Service.

Vanetsyan, who is the founder of the opposition Hayrenik (Homeland) party, is among the organizers of a rally protesting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's decision to sign a statement on ending the war in Nagorno-Karabakh.

"After the event I will go to the NSS and will give an explanation," Vanetsyan told reporters on Wednesday, November 11.

Police in Yerevan are detaining participants and organizers of the rally involving 17 political parties, though gatherings are prohibited under martial law in Armenia.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Russian and Azerbaijani Presidents Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev have signed a deal to end the war in Karabakh after 44 days. Karabakh (Artsakh) President Arayik Harutyunyan said on Tuesday that he has agreed to the deal signed by Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan.
