The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Armenia issued a statement on Thursday, February 25, demanding the immediate resignation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and his government.
The statement came after the First Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Tiran Khachatryan was relieved of his duties after contradicting Pashinyan's statements about the Iskander missiles.
“The General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces protests the dismissal of the First Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces on short-sighted and unreasonable grounds, carried out without taking into account the national and state interests of the Republic of Armenia, based only on personal and ambitious feelings," the General staff said in the statement.
"The Prime Minister and the Government of Armenia are no longer able to make adequate decisions amid this fateful and critical situation for the Armenian people.
"For a long time, the Armed Forces of Armenia have patiently endured "attacks" aimed at discrediting the Armed Forces by the current government, but everything has a limit. The armed forces of Armenia have fulfilled their duty with honor, fought shoulder to shoulder with their people against the enemy.
"Given the current situation, the armed forces of Armenia demand the resignation of the Prime Minister and the Government of the Republic of Armenia, at the same time warning to refrain from using force against the people, whose children died defending the Homeland and Artsakh."
The statement was signed by the Chief of General Staff, Colonel General Onik Gasparyan and the rest of the General Staff.
