Russia was closely following the snap parliamentary elections in Armenia, where acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's party won a convincing victory, Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov told journalists on Monday, June 21.

Pashinyan’s Civil Contract party won 53.92% of the vote, while Hayastan (Armenia) bloc headed by second President Robert Kocharyan secured 21.4% of the ballots. "I Have Honor" bloc too will get seats in the parliament.

“We are very closely following the information coming from Yerevan. We welcome the information from the Central Election Commission of Armenia that these elections have taken place. And, of course, we see that Pashinyan's party won a convincing victory,” Interfax cited Peskov as saying.

The Kremlin press secretary also congratulated the people of Armenia on their choice. “Armenia is our closest ally and partner and, of course, we wish that this choice of the Armenian people would help them cope with the difficulties that the country is currently experiencing and to enter a sustainable development trajectory, including through the implementation of the trilateral agreements reached and signed with the direct participation of the President of Russia,” said Peskov.
