50-meter Russian flag unfurled in Karabakh

The National Flag Day of Russia was celebrated in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) on Sunday, August 22, with the military personnel of the Russian peacekeeping contingent taking part and raising the flag, the country's Defense Ministry reports.

"On August 22, we celebrate the Day of the State Flag of our country, this holiday is recognized to rally and unite all those who are devoted to their homeland, who sacredly value the history of their country, their people," Major General Oleg Yegorov, deputy commander of the Russian peacekeeping contingent, told the personnel.

The event concluded with the demonstration of the 50-meter flag of Russia and a solemn march accompanied by military-patriotic songs.

Russian peacekeepers were deployed in the region after Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Russian and Azerbaijani Presidents Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev on November 9 signed a statement to end the war in Karabakh after almost 45 days. Under the deal, the Armenian side has returned all the seven regions surrounding Nagorno-Karabakh, having lost a part of Karabakh itself in hostilities.
