Armenia, Vatican seal memorandum on cultural cooperation

A memorandum of understanding on cooperation in culture has been signed between Armenia and the Vatican, according to a statement from President Armen Sarkissian's office.

Sarkissian, who is currently in Italy on a state trip, on Tuesday, October 12 visited the Pontifical Council for Culture of the Holy See and met with the its Chairman, Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi. Issues related to the cooperation between the Holy See and Armenia and the development of inter-church relations were on the table.

The President stressed that there is a great potential for deepening cooperation between the Holy See and Armenia in the spheres of preservation of cultural, educational and historical heritage.

They both agreed that the memorandum will provide an opportunity to conduct joint research on issues of historical and cultural significance.

Sarkissian earlier met with Pope Francis, Italian President Sergio Mattarella, President of the Senate Maria Elisabetta Casellati and other top officials.
