The Armenian parliament did not vote on a statement on relations with Turkey and Azerbaijan on Tuesday, June 14.
The draft statement was submitted by the opposition Armenia and "I have honor" blocs․ The opposition called for an extraordinary meeting on this matter on June 3, but the ruling Civil Contract party did not attend the meeting, which means the two blocs were unable to achieve quorum, Sputnik Armenia reports.
MP Hayk Konjoryan from Civil Contract reiterated their position that the party would not take part in the voting. based on this, opposition lawmakers did not come to the meeting.
The text of the statement stresses the need to ensure a reliable land connection between Armenia and Karabakh. It wants Armenia to act as a guarantor of the security and self-determination of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh with all the ensuing components. In addition, it is emphasizes that during the process of demarcation and delimitation of borders, any violation of the territorial integrity of Armenia should be ruled out.
The statement also touches upon the Armenian-Turkish negotiation process. It notes that Armenia rules out any agreement with Turkey that casts doubt on the fact of the Armenian Genocide.
