Moscow: Attempts of West to “infiltrate” South Caucasus are “rude”

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, has expressed hope that peace initiatives developed with Russia would be implemented in the settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict.

"This region can literally be called a key region, another region where there is still hope that the peace initiatives that were developed by the parties (Armenia and Azerbaijan - Ed.) together with Russia will be implemented," she said on air with Sputnik Radio on Wednesday, March 1.

Zakharova described “the attempts of the West to infiltrate the situation in the South Caucasus as rude”, TASS reports.

According to her, such a policy is being pursued not to resolve the conflict, but with "the exact opposite goals." “Unfortunately, we have been observing such a trend here for many years. Now the Westerners have become even more active,” the diplomat added.

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry recalled that there are no successful examples of a conflict resolution with the participation of Western partners.

On February 28, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, during a press conference following talks with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, noted that the EU civilian mission in Armenia raises many questions in terms of its legitimacy.
