Ruling bloc says won’t vote for new Yerevan mayor on April 11

The Yerevan City Council has scheduled mayoral election for April 11, with 39 council members voting in favor, two against, and one abstaining.

Armen Galjian, a member of the ruling My Step bloc, announced on Tuesday, April 4 that his team has decided against electing a new mayor, considering that municipal elections are a few months away, Pastinfo reports.

He added that they will not be attending the session, because there will be no candidate and there will be no need to discuss and vote.

Former Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan will be Civil Contract’s candidate in the 2023 Yerevan elections. Avinyan was appointed the Deputy Mayor of Yerevan in September 2022.
