Former Armenian lawmaker Sofya Hovsepyan, who currently resides in Nagorno Karabakh (Artsakh) wrote on social media on Wednesday, June 21 that people in Karabakh are starving and if nothing changes, the situation of 120,000 people will be catastrophic in just 2-3 days.
On 12 December 2022, under the guise of "environmental protests", Azerbaijan launched a blockade of Artsakh. Civil servants, disguised military personnel, members of pro-government NGOs, and youth organizations were among the so-called 'eco-activists.' In June 2023, Azerbaijan also banned medical evacuations and humanitarian deliveries by the International Committee of the Red Cross.
Hovsepyan said pharmacies are running out of medicines and formulas, leaving infants hungry.
“The supply of bread is very scarce and won’t last for weeks. Medicines do not reach the hospital. Patients from four villages cannot be transferred to Stepanakert or Goris, even emergency aid is not allowed to reach them,” Hovsepyan said.
She also urged people in Armenia proper to take to the streets and protest as a “big disaster is imminent”.
