Azerbaijan again speaks of using Aghdam-Stepanakert road

Azerbaijan has again spoken of using the Aghdam-Stepanakert road to provide supplies to the people of Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh).

The matter was first raised by the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, who said on July 15 that Azerbaijan was “willing” to supply humanitarian goods to Karabakh via said road.

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov on Monday, July 17 met with the newly appointed ambassador of Russia, Mikhail Yevdokimov, and claimed that Baku has again created conditions for Armenians to use the Lachin Corridor -- the sole road connecting Armenia to Nagorno Karabakh.

At the same time, he added, he said that “it is possible to use the Aghdam-Khankendi road to meet the needs of Armenian residents of Azerbaijan.”

Regarding the issue of rights and security of Armenian residents mentioned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia earlier, Bayramov noted that this issue will be resolved “within the framework of national legislation”, and claimed that “dialogue was initiated with Armenian residents.”
