Deputy PM links opening of regional roads to peace

Armenia has not yet received a response to its latest proposals, sent to Azerbaijan, Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan said Monday, September 4, Arka.am reports.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said on August 24 that Armenia had sent to Azerbaijan new proposals regarding a bilateral peace treaty. He did not elaborate.

Speaking about the trilateral (Armenian-Azerbaijani-Russian) working group set up to handle the reopening of roads between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Grigoryan said there were no agreements on the date and venue of the next meeting.

"Some issues are being discussed at the level of working contacts, but we do not have any agreements on the next meeting at present," he said.

Asked why the group's activities have become passive, the deputy prime minister said that when considering reopening of roads, the general background should be conducive.

"Can we speak about reopening of roads when there is no stability and peace? At the end of the day, of course, reopening of roads is also a peace process and it will be applicable when there is peace," he said.
