Human rights lawyer Siranush Sahakyan has said that the fate of 80 Armenian prisoners of war remains unknown. According to her, Azerbaijani authorities do not officially confirm their capture, although human rights defenders have collected evidence of that.
Sahakyan said in an interview with Armlur.am that in addition to the 80 captives, 23 others have been confirmed to be in Azerbaijani custody.
“The government of Armenia is more active in the legal field, and certain processes are being carried out in the UN Court of Justice and the European Court,” Sahakyan said.
“As a result of political negotiations, the Armenian side is able to solve the problem of prisoners exclusively through analysis, which means it meets certain demands coming from Azerbaijan, but I think that this problem should be solved through diplomatic means.”
Recently, 32 Armenians returned from Azerbaijan as a result of a statement published by Yerevan and Baku.
