Armenian Foreign Minister to skip CSTO Council meeting

Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan will not participate in the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of CSTO member countries, which will be held on June 21 in Almaty, the press secretary of the Armenian Foreign Ministry Ani Badalyan said on Thursday, June 20.

It is planned that at the meeting, which will be chaired by Kazakhstan, the foreign ministers of the CSTO member states will discuss international developments, the situation in the region, mechanisms for strengthening coordination in the field of foreign policy, as well as sum up the results of multifaceted cooperation within the Organization.

It is expected that the Council will approve a number of draft decisions that will be submitted for approval during the next session of the CSTO Collective Security Council, which will take place on November 28.

In February, Armenia announced it was freezing its membership in the CSTO, and later also refused to pay membership fees to the organization. On June 12, during a speech at the National Assembly, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan did not rule out the possibility that Armenia would leave the CSTO in the future.
