ICRC reps visit Armenians held in Azerbaijan

The staff of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) have visited Nagorno-Karabakh Armenians currently being held in Azerbaijan, Spokesperson for the Azerbaijani Representative Office of the ICRC Ilaha Huseynova has said, according to Trend.

Huseynova meetings were conducted with the detainees in June, and arrangements were made for them to communicate with their families.

She emphasized that the ICRC, in line with its mandate, evaluates the treatment and detention conditions of these individuals, facilitating the re-establishment or maintenance of contact between them and their families. Following ICRC protocols, observations and recommendations from visits are solely communicated and deliberated with the detaining party.

Dozens of Armenians, including former Karabakh leaders Arkady Ghukasyan, Bako Sahakyan, Arayik Harutyunyan, Ruben Vardanyan, ex-Foreign Minister David Babayan, former chairman of parliament Davit Ishkhanyan and generals Levon Mnatsakanyan and David Manukyan, are currently incarcerated in Armenia.
