Opposition lawmaker Tigran Abrahamyan argues that no one remembers that Armenia was supposed to have open roads to the outside world in the context of unblocking regional communication.
When the matter was first brought into circulation, it was about opening all regional roads, Abrahamyan said in a post on Facebook.
“However, through the efforts of Turkey and Azerbaijan and as a result of the defeatist/concessionary policy of official Yerevan, this topic is now enshrined on the international agenda in the context of the so-called "Zangezur corridor”, he notes.
“Besides the fact that the Turanian political leaders are trying to turn the road into a corridor at any cost, today, it seems, no one remembers that Armenia should also have had open roads to the outside world.”
Azerbaijan and Turkey have on multiple occasions raised the question about the Zangezur "corridor" through the southern Armenian province of Syunik that would connect Nakhijevan to the rest of Azerbaijan. The Armenian side, however, has repeatedly denied being involved in negotiations for the provision of a corridor to Azerbaijan, stressing that they have only agreed to unblock transport communications in the region.
