Azeri presidential aide suggests restrictions against Armenian army

Azerbaijani presidential aide Hikmet Hajiyev has declared restrictions should be applied to the Armenian armed forces because, according to him, “Armenia is an aggressor.”

He drew parallels with the Iraq-Kuwait war, when there were certain restrictions related to the development of the Iraqi armed forces, Minval.az reports.

“We believe that such proportional restrictions should also be applied to the armed forces of Armenia,” said Hajiyev.

He complained about the “militarization” of Yerevan, noting that a number of Western countries, in particular France, “provide serious support to Armenia in this matter”.

“This contributes to the creation of tension in the South Caucasus,” noted Hajiyev.

Azerbaijan has attacked Armenia on multiple times in the past four years, occupying territories and killing troops and civilians. In 2020, Azerbaijan waged a 44-day war against Nagorno-Karabakh, while in September 2023, launched an offensive and forceibly displaced the entire indigenous Armenian population of Karabakh.
