Pashinyan: Role to ensure Armenia roads safety reserved to Armenia

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has said that under the trilateral statement of the leaders of Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan from 9 November 2020, the role of ensuring the safety of communications passing through Armenia is reserved to Armenia.

Pashinyan made the remarks at the meeting with the participants of the Summer School program of the National Assembly.

“Recently, a high-ranking official of the Russian Federation announced that in the trilateral statement of November 9, it is written that the security of transport communications between the main part of Azerbaijan and Nakhichevan should be ensured by the forces of the border guard troops of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation.

“I want to say that there is no such thing written in the tripartite statement of November 9. It is written in a plain, public text that can be opened and read. On the contrary, it is written there that the Republic of Armenia ensures and guarantees the security of communications.”

About two weeks ago, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov claimed that the Armenian government is "sabotaging" the agreements reached on the unblocking of infrastructure and stressed that the matter should be resolved in accordance with the tripartite declarations of 2020-2022.
