Opposition leader, Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan believes the Nagorno-Karabakh issue has not been resolved.
Galstanyan resumed street protests against Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on October 2. He held two rallies in Yerevan, attracting fewer people than he did in May and June. Also, a few hundred people led by the outspoken cleric picketed Armenian prosecutors’ headquarters on October 9 to demand criminal charges against Pashinyan.
"The attitude towards the current Prime Minister has not changed in any way, neither in terms of his legitimacy nor in terms of serving the interests of Armenia, and our demand clearly continues. However, if he considers himself to be representing the Republic of Armenia, he has an obligation to take steps that must to some extent correspond and be real for the interests of Armenia," Galstanyan has said according to Panorama.am.
Weighing in on the COP29 conference taking place in Baku and Armenia’s the participation in it, the Archbishop said the return of prisoners of war and the occupation of the sovereign territories of Armenia by Azerbaijan should have been raised at the conference.
He stressed that the current authorities of Armenia are incapable of conducting real negotiations, which are extremely important if Yerevan wants to achieve long-term, stable peace.
