Armenia will receive €12.9 million in support from the European Commission for nuclear safety programs.

The Government of Armenia at its meeting on November 28 approved the financing agreement between Armenia and the European Commission, titled “Strengthening Nuclear Safety, Radiation Protection and Radioactive Waste Management Infrastructures in Armenia”.

One of the tasks of the Nuclear Safety Regulatory Committee of Armenia is to bring the nuclear and radiation safety regulatory infrastructure closer to EU directives in accordance with the EU-Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA). CEPA also contains Armenia’s commitment to continue the convergence process in cooperation with the EU.

To ensure timely and full implementation of the measures defined by CEPA, Armenia has developed a roadmap. The Nuclear Safety Regulatory Committee has already initiated the development of a new draft nuclear law taking into account the relevant EU directives.
