Armenian tennis player Elina Avanesyan, the No 6 seed, defeated Chinese qualifier Wang Xiyu 6-3, 7-5 to move into the second round of the Hobart International at the Hobart’s Domain Tennis Centre on Monday.

Avanesyan, ranked No 44, will face Belgian qualifier Greet Minnen next, Tennis Mahors reports.
